Title: Toxoplasmosis
in immunocompetent children
🔬 Presentation Highlights
·Toxoplasmosis
is a zoonotic infection caused by the parasite Toxoplasma gondii,
found worldwide.
·An
estimated 25–35% of the global population is infected with T. gondii.
·Infection
outcomes vary based on the host’s immune status.
·In
immunocompetent individuals, infection is often asymptomatic or mild and
self-limiting.
·T.
gondii can evade immune responses and form latent tissue cysts,
especially in the brain, eye, heart, and muscles.
·Latent
infection may reactivate if the host becomes immunocompromised.
·Recent
evidence shows clinically significant disease can also occur in
immunocompetent children.
·This
presentation reviews toxoplasmosis-related diseases in immunocompetent
children reported over the past decade.
